Just a quick one for y’all today. As some of you may or may not know, I am of Chinese decent–more specifically, my parents are from Hong Kong. So naturally, dim sum has always been a huge part of my life. Sunday mornings were made for these. Yes, my blood is 50% hot sauce and 50% mustard (bonus points for those that know what I mean). Having had dim sum for most of my life, I’m quite picky when it comes to the quality and quantity of the food. The best places provide both, there must be no compromise. Pearl King offers exactly this, and they definitely meet my unreasonably high dim sum standards.
I’m not normally a huge fan of steamed BBQ pork buns or better known as cha siu baos. However, when these came to our table, I was pleasantly surprised at how fresh and fluffy the buns were. It almost had a melt in your mouth texture to the buns. One could equate it to eating a cloud stuffed with delicious BBQ pork. Mmm…such airy goodness.
Lastly came the eggplant stuffed with shrimp. This simple but classic dish was one of my favourites. The eggplant was cooked to a crisp on the outside but soft on the inside with a contrasting shrimp stuffing. Served with a chunky black bean and garlic sauce. A+.
If you love dim sum like I do, or are planning to become more adventurous with your food, Pearl King is definitely a great place to dip your toes into. Err…let’s all think of a better analogy shall we?
